About Alcohol on Campus

Alcohol is an incredibly important part of College life. Yet, researchers, the media and society misrepresent the actual experiences students have. Articles about college drinking argue that heavy episodic drinking, commonly known as “binge drinking”, is the number one public health problem affecting college students (Wechsler et. al 2002). College administrators and the National Institute of Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) have taken several measures to prevent underage drinking, but survey results reveal that there has been little or no change in students’ behavior. All of this emphasis on preventing or reducing college drinking may actually have a counter effect; it paints the inaccurate picture that the majority of students drink irresponsibly, creating a one dimensional view of the college drinking culture. (Laitman and Lederman 2007)

Alcohol on Campus is a place where college students can come together to share their experiences about alcohol, whether it be stories about a Greek event, confronting a roommate struggling with alcohol abuse or those in the process of recovering. Our hope is that Alcohol on Campus will foster a community for college students to offer their perspectives and experiences with alcohol, as well as gain access to resources that help address their problems or concerns.
